Qawali Evening at Siri Fort Auditorium, New Delhi 30th October 2008
Routes 2 Roots to further its objectives of people to people contact amongst the neighboring countries organized a mega cultural evening (Qawwali/ Sufi Music) in association with ICCR (Indian Council for Cultural Relations) and IWPC (India Women Press Corp) at the prestigious Siri Fort Auditorium on 30th October 2008, New Delhi. Sufi Music has been a tradition of Undivided India where it has been sung mostly in Mosques as prayers to almighty and to seek blessings from Allah (God). Routes 2 Roots had invited Muhammad Zaman Zaki Taji Qawwal group from Pakistan whose family has been traditionally into this sufiyana music from 750 Years and are the descendents of Sikandaranbad Gharana. From Indian side we had all female qawwals Ms. Chanchal Bharti with her women group. This was first of its kind especially in Sufiyana music where both the groups of India and Pakistan were to perform together as competition and was a new experiment which they willingly under took in a spirit of healthy challenges. Hon’ble President of India Smt. Pratibha DeviSingh Patil was the chief guest apart from distinguished guest from the diplomatic core and thousands of general public. The entire show was non -ticketed. The media electronic as well as print covered this event extensively.
