    Rajasthani Romance in Pakistan -Nov. 2006

    The Rajasthani Romance program is the first time after Independence that a group of 25 people depicting a state of India (Raiasthan) have so successfully organized the event in both Karachi and Lahore over 2 weeks. This was the first and one of its kind Rajasthani food and cultural festival that Pakistan had ever seen, with large-scale participation of Indian artists. A11 traditional musicians and Kalbelia dancers and 2 Master Chefs of the world renowned Palace on Wheels along with 2 artisans, who performed their skills of Meena-Kari and Kota Doria work, and a record holder from Rajasthan with longest mustache in the world, Ram Singh. Authentic Rajasthani spices and ingredients were also flown down for the preparation of the traditional Rajasthani cuisine with hundreds of dishes like Lal Mans, Dal Bati Churma, Gatte Ki Sabzi, sangri, Ghewar etc. Everyday a different menu was served. Various kiosks were also be put-up displaying Rajasthani handicrafts, dresses and apparels, bangles and Kadas and various kinds of souvenirs. The entire Pakistani press and electronic media covered this event, and thousands of people witnessed this show on daily basis.

    The performance was a huge hit with people insisting on repeats even after the end of the show. The people have insisted that we bring many more such events - which are both entertaining and informative while spreading the message of peace and brotherhood. The electronic media like Geo, AAJ, and ARY carried special reports of the show and amongst all the print media of Pakistan carried stories of this festival. Mayor of Karachi was pleased to give a memento to Routes 2 Roots on behalf of the people of Karachi in appreciation of their efforts.
